Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) is a mobile dental clinic that travels around the state providing charitable basic dental care to Texans with limited resources and/or access to care. Local community support along with dental and non-dental volunteers from across the state come together at the community’s venue. Up to 700 patients may be seen during the 2 day events depending upon the size of the clinic’s set up. Our volunteer dental professionals’ primary focus is on relieving pain and preventing infection by providing extractions, fillings, and cleanings. In limited cases, replacing missing front teeth or repairing partial dentures may be available to restore a smile. (Due to COVID-19 we are not providing prosthetics due to aerosols created by these procedures.)
Since 2001, TMOM has treated 42,821 patients with $26,348,666 worth of donated care.

Patients
TMOMs are designed to bring dental services to individuals who cannot obtain care any other way. Our usual model for TMOM patients is based on a first come, first served basis. Due to COVID-19 all patients will be prescreened a few weeks before the event and given an appointment time for the event. Although the date and the city of each event may be posted above, the physical location will not be disclosed until two weeks before each event. Prescreen information will be posted a few weeks before the event. If you would like to learn more about becoming a patient, refer to our Patient FAQs
TMOMs are designed to bring dental services to individuals who cannot afford care any other way. However, we are not able to provide dental care to very young children
Come and wait in line. Patients are seen on a first come, first serve basis. In order to have the best chance of receiving treatment, potential patients often begin lining up by 5 AM. Once the total number of patients we can see that day have been registered, no additional patients can be seen. Because we see hundreds of patients in a day, please be prepared to wait several hours for service.
Our main goal at TMOM is to relieve pain and restore smiles. We provide extractions, fillings, and cleanings as well as some other dental procedures that can be appropriately done in a mission setting. We do not provide cosmetic dentistry or braces. Further, we may determine that we cannot take care of all your dental needs at TMOM, so that we can relieve pain for the greatest number of patients.
Patients seeking treatment at TMOM should be prepared to spend the entire day at the event. If you are not available when your name is called for treatment, we will move on to the next patient.
Everyone has to wait in line for services. Most TMOM patients are suffering and in pain, so we do not take anyone out of line.
We encourage you to not bring your children to TMOM unless they are receiving treatment. We will have very limited space for childcare. Children will only be allowed to accompany their parents into the treatment room in an emergency situation.
Volunteers
The Smiles Foundation could not fulfill its mission without the dedication and commitment of our selfless volunteers. They are the backbone of our efforts. Both professionals and community volunteers work side by side to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Once you have experienced a TMOM, you may well want to register for another. The spirit of human compassion and kindness that is exhibited at TMOM is inspirational. Many volunteers have attended multiple events and become a part of our “TMOM Groupie” family.
Becoming a TMOM volunteer is quick and easy through tmomvolunteer.org. Simply create an account and then register for an event and manage your profile. NOTE: Only registered volunteers are allowed to participate at TMOM events.
All TMOM event details will be sent to the email provided at registration. Please see the links to “guidelines & FAQs” for important volunteer information on the registration webpage.
